Our Senior Empowerment program is designed to foster a sense of community, reduce isolation, and promote wellness through nutrition, physical activity engagement, and intergenerational teaching and learning. Program components include a daily lunch service consisting of warm nutritional meals served in a friendly community dining environment. YWCA Health Educators regularly offer nutrition education and fitness workshops, providing seniors with the tools to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle in a safe, culturally empowering environment. Seniors are invited to participate in recreational and educational activities as well as social gatherings and outings.
With a lack of green space and parks, safety in communities and physical activity engagement for older residents have become a challenging.
Community NEED
With the second largest elderly population in the country, there is a great need for holistic senior programs in Los Angeles. Seniors in our communities increasingly face food insecurity, the threat of homelessness, and are heavily impacted by preventable diseases. Through community building and engagement, we assist our seniors in obtaining healthy lifestyles. Connecting our seniors to available resources is our aim, which increases socialization and decreases isolation.
