On May 14th, 2014, YWCA Greater Los Angeles honored Marianne Williamson, internationally-acclaimed spiritual author and lecturer, as the 2014 Phenomenal Woman of the Year during the annual Phenomenal Woman Awards Luncheon, at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. During the signature annual fundraising event, her powerful keynote address affirmed that all women have the power within themselves to be phenomenal.
“Abolition, Women’s suffrage, Civil rights…none of these movements were brought about because it was easy, but because it was necessary,” stated Marianne Williamson during her acceptance speech. “We as Phenomenal Women today must recognize that this reality is possible, is imminently feasible, through the grace of God, and create a new movement.”
Ms. Washington shared, “Marianne Williamson’s inspiration of women demonstrated by the impact of her six New York Times bestseller books, four of which achieved number one. She has spread a philosophy of belief and will-to-win in women around the world. The Phenomenal Woman Award seeks to identify extraordinary role models for the thousands of individuals the YWCA Greater Los Angeles serves. We honor women whose accomplishment and dedication inspire young women to achieve their ultimate potential.”
Special Speaker at the event was sex trafficking survivor Rachel Thomas, whom Ms. Washington describes as “a dynamic educator who speaks from the heart and aims at the head, accomplishing the YWCA Greater Los Angeles’ goals of transforming lives, building self-reliance and, ultimately, strengthening communities.” Rachel is a powerful leader in the fight against human trafficking, a primary advocacy initiative of the YWCA Greater Los Angeles. Tata Vega, featured in the Academy Award-winning film “20 Feet from Stardom”, wowed the sold-out crowd with her powerful renditions of God is Trying to Tell you Something and This is a Man’s World.
