As a YWCA, we advocate for justice and dignity for all people. For over a century, the YWCA Greater Los Angeles has provided housing and supportive services. YWCA GLA is pioneering a model of community centers and housing – co-created with diverse stakeholders – to transform lives, build self-reliance and, ultimately, strengthen communities.
Who We Serve: Our participants come from different walks of life, socio-economic backgrounds, age groups, genders, ethnic backgrounds and religious faiths. We serve anyone and everyone who knocks on our doors and needs help. We strive to stand ready to serve wherever and whoever they are.
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT/CEO
Dear Friends of YWCA Greater Los Angeles:
As we pause to reflect on over 126 years of service to the community, we remember some of the incredible milestones along our journey. We have built buildings, served our community, and shed light on issues long-ignored. We have faced these issues, this fight, with courage and dignity. We have aligned ourselves in partnership with legislators, corporations, organizations, and individuals who are like-minded and present in this quest to proactively change what we must.
To think of the history and the change that has transpired over the last twelve decades is inspiring and remarkable, yet our organizational age does not define us. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, learning from them and growing – refusing to be stagnant. We choose to be leaders who think and approach the ills of today’s society with strength and innovation.
And we never stand still! There is always more work to be done – more children who need a safe space to live, learn and grow; more victims who need help along their journey to becoming a survivor; more seniors who crave interaction and the opportunity to not merely occupy their time but to serve their community, to expand their minds. We need more people, like you, who care. We need more people to join us and stand up for the vulnerable in our community.
Standing with you,
Faye Washington
President and CEO
